Big Z And The Big Three

The starting center position is a renowned spot on an NBA team. Feared and respected for his size and ability the center is seen by most fans as the "Center Piece" to a great team and normally a precursor to an attractive looking roster and it's easy to see why. They are the biggest things on the hardwood and are always hawking around the basket for an easy rebound or dunk. Greg Oden and all his injury problems didn't stop Portland from taking him first overall in the draft even though they knew he was not going to be able to play for an entire year. That right there is proof of the sexiness a big talented center can bring to a roster. ┼Żydr┼źnas is not the type of center that cries out $100 million dollar contract but on a roster as talented as this, he is going to be a force. I'm not sure the Heat could have done any better in the open market this year.

We have three out of five starting spots filled with dominant players but lack the true double team presence in the middle. That will not matter at all with Big Z starting and occupying the majority of the center minuets. He may not be the most dominant player on another roster with less talent but on this team he will put up All-Star numbers and all he has to do is clean up whatever is left over. These aren't just any leftovers; these are the King's, Bosh's and Flash's leftovers. Big Z will have the best year of his career due to the fact that he will be on the same floor with two other players that both command double teams and another perennial All-Star. All he really has to do is block shots and clean up offensive rebounds.

Jamaal Magloire, Joel Anthony and Dexter Pittman will all have sporadic minuets but undoubtedly will all come through for the Heat when called upon. This team right now actually has four centers and have also signed veteran power forward Juwan Howard. With this core of big men Miami should have the right situational players to have a good depth off the bench. All in all the only thing this team is missing at the center position is presence but when the season starts I have a feeling our big men will make their presence felt.
